About us
Norwegian Knowledge Centre for the Health Services was established 1 January 2004. The Centre is organised under the Norwegian Directorate of Health but is scientifically and professionally independent. The Centre has no authority to develop health policy or responsibility to implement policies. (02.01.2009)

Mission
The Centre gathers and disseminates evidence about the effect and quality of methods and interventions within all parts of the health services. The uptake of this evidence by the health services is also an important goal for the activities.
Central tasks
- HTA reports, systematic reviews, rapid reviews and early warnings
- projects that aim to improve the quality of patient information.
- surveys of patient and employee experiences with health services.
- support to the health services of low income countries through the provision of evidence about the effect of relevant health interventions.
- support to the government, the regional health authorities, and the health services in general to incorporate evidence into their practice.
Organisation
The Centre was established in 2004, based upon a merger of the following organisations: Norwegian Centre for Health Technology Assessment (SMM), parts of the Division for Knowledge Management in The Directorate for Health and Social Affairs, and the Foundation for Health Services Research (HELTEF).
The Centre is organised into management, four specialist departments, each divided in sections, and three staff sections.
